Biography::

The Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra was created on the initiative of Tadeusz Szeligowski, a prominent composer who for many years served as the orchestra's first manager. Stanislaw Wislocki conducted their first concert on November 10, 1947 and became the Philharmonic's first Music Director. Among his successors were: Jerzy Katlewicz, Robert Satanowski, Witold Krzemienski, Wojciech Rajski and Andrzej Borejko. World-famous conductors have appeared with this orchestra, i.e. George Szell, Eugène Ormandy, Hermann Abendroth, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Roberto Benzi and Carlo Zecchi, as well as such renowned soloists as Artur Rubinstein, Igor & David Oistrakh, Martha Argerich, Rugiero Ricci, Henryk Szeryng, Mstislav Rostropovich, Malcolm Frager, Monique Haas, Jean Fournier, Sviatoslav Richter, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Narciso Yepes, Gidon Kremer, Maurizio Pollini, Krystian Zimerman and Garrick Ohlsson, but also the famous Polish singers Stefania Toczyska, Ewa Podles, Ryszard Karczykowski and Wieslaw Ochman. The Poznan Philharmonic performs at the "Aula" of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, a concert hall renowned throughout Europe for its excellent acoustics and beautiful neo-renaissance architecture. From 2004, the orchestra works under the artistic leadership of maestro Grzegorz Nowak.
